In government reshuffle last week, Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriacos Mitsotakis appointed Vasilis Kikilias as the new Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, succeeding Christos Stylianides.
Kikilias is a highly experience politician, having previously served as Minister of Health, Minister of Tourism, and most recently as Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
According to local reports, the new minister will need to address major issues, including aligning the country’s maritime industry with international environmental standards to promote sustainability and reduce carbon emissions.
According to government sources, the government reshuffle is characterized by “renewal and opportunities for new deputies.” The same sources reported that the Mitsotakis government is “changing philosophy,” aiming for “efficiency and speed in government work.”
